Privacy Notice

The People in Law Conference approach

In today’s big data-driven world, it’s more important than ever for people to be confident that their information is in safe hands. The People in Law Conference is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy as well as keeping it secure.

We endeavour to comply with the Data Protection Act 1998, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other relevant legislation and this updated Privacy Notice reflects recent changes in privacy laws, most notably the GDPR. Here’s everything you need to know about how we manage, secure and use your data.

First things first, these are our guiding principles when it comes to data:

• We’ll only ask you for personal or business information if we genuinely need it or it will help us to enhance the service we offer you.

• The only times we share the information we hold is when we’re legally obliged to do so, you’ve consented to it as part of registering your involvement in the conference (e.g. as an attendee, sponsor or speaker), or we need to do so to protect our rights.

• We only store information on our secure online systems if we need to do so to be able to keep in touch with you, or provide you with a service.

What we collect – and why

If you sign up to the People in Law Conference database, register to attend, sponsor or speak at the awards we may ask you for information including your name, email address, job title, organisation name, address and phone number of your organisation.

We will also keep track of any information we need for legal reasons – e.g. the organisation's financial and taxation information.

We may also take photos at events related to the awards. You’re entitled to have any images that you are in deleted, just email info@peopleinlaw.co.uk and let us know.

We collect and retain this information because it enables us to:

• Communicate with you as an attendee, sponsor, speaker or otherwise interested party about details relating to the People in Law Conference. We may also share industry updates and insights from our sponsor network with you.

• Provide customer service (e.g. responding to requests or queries relating to the event).

Where and how we store your information

We take all necessary security measures to protect our stored data, including via firewalls and secure networks.

Our security measures are extremely robust. We’d also recommend that you ensure your internet connection is secure when you’re sharing any information with us via online channels.

Where you have a password that enables you to buy tickets for the conference, you are responsible for keeping this password confidential.

Timescales

We hold on to data for as long as we need it for any of the purposes that apply above – and as long as we have your permission to keep it. In some cases, we may be legally obliged to keep your information for a set amount of time.

Upon your request, and in accordance with all laws, we will take appropriate steps to update your information, remove your information, and correct any inaccuracies about your information. You can make a request by emailing info@peopleinlaw.co.uk.

If you have signed up to the People in Law Conference database, registered to attend, sponsor or speak at the awards, you’ll receive updates from us in the form of the communications outlined above until you notify us that you’d like to opt out.

If you wish to stop receiving updates, please email us at info@peopleinlaw.co.uk or follow the procedures for unsubscribing set out at the foot of each email.

If you ask us to delete all of the information we hold, which you can do by emailing us at info@peopleinlaw.co.uk, we’ll delete this within 40 days of receiving the notification – unless we’re legally obliged to retain it for a longer period.
